1 Aug

Published date: September 20, 2016
Seventeen-year-old Snow has spent the majority of her life within the walls of the Whittaker Institute, a high security mental hospital in upstate New York. Deep down, she knows she’s not crazy and doesn’t belong there. When she meets a mysterious, handsome new orderly and dreams about a strange twisted tree she realizes she must escape and figure out who she really is.

Using her trusting friend Bale as a distraction, Snow breaks free and races into the nearby woods. Suddenly, everything isn’t what it seems, the line between reality and fantasy begins to blur, and she finds herself in icy Algid–her true home–with witches, thieves, and a strangely alluring boy named Kai, none of whom she’s sure she can trust. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow discovers that she is on the run from a royal lineage she’s destined to inherit, a father more powerful and ruthless than she could have imagined, and choices of the heart that could change the fate of everything…including Snow’s return to the world she once knew.

This breathtaking first volume begins the story of how Snow becomes a villain, a queen, and ultimately a hero.

From witches, potions to beasts and magic, you name it, this book provides a great assortment of the fantasy variety. Very enjoyable and the twists and turns will have your head spinning. The beginning was slow but once I got into it stopping wasn’t on the cards. The more I read,  the more I wanted to know and that to me is a must in a book. I can certainly say that I didn’t expect what transpired at the end of the book. Yep, unexpected revelations.

Even though is not a standalone I felt that the ending provided closure somewhat. Can’t wait to to read more from this series and see where it will lead!

5/5 stars!

As I read this book, I imagined entering a dark sinister castle as shadows moved through the deep silence; I saw eyes watching me as I stepped closer to him, to his story. There are no colorful carousels and laughter as sunshine pours from the windows, instead there are memories painful as yesterday and loneliness so raw that ripping your heart would be a sweet torture. And the one responsible on making me feel this was Viktor Melikov. I’m in awe of such storytelling and how the pain is so beautifully portrayed that just thinking of it is like reading it all over again and yet I’m a masochist because I would gladly do it.  The story is so intricate that each event has its own influence and impact on the characters. Oh, the characters! How can I express the determination, to find salvation where there’s none? This is exactly what makes Clarissa Wild books amazing! The hero is more than wounded; he is broken as Alexis Kidd. Alexis is no belle of the ball waiting for prince charming. She’s a survivor and a determined woman who grasps the sweet thing that life still has stored for her.

This book is utterly amazing, the creativity poured in each line, and the intensity of the main characters is a work of art. This is one of my favorite books! If you are still wondering to read this book, wonder no more, go one-click and prepare to fall in love with a man dark, hard, sweet as pure sin. I was captivated, I felled in love each time with every word.  This is a new kind of romance, not intended for the faint at heart. Prepare for a hot, dark, dirty and utterly sexy Beauty and the Beast!

I’m stunned, awestruck and high!  How can this author merge two different elements and make it one? And then, for the final result OWN IN IT! Freaking awesome, I must say. I was surprised by so many twists, that I got even scared to laugh or cry. I peeked the page, before actually starting to read; just to be on the safe side, but every precaution went downhill. She got me, every single time. It was an intense read, full of emotions and tough characters.  You get to see two different sides of the main characters (Angel and Jay), which in my perspective made it all unique. How the two of them got their own problems, but had the determination to keep moving on. Even if their love got them scared, they were one another anchor. I will say this is not a sweet, picking flowers story, this is raw and hot. First, with a kick-ass, independent, sassy heroine with the mouth of a sailor. And then with a military, hard abs, tanned skin, dominant, f*cking sexy, sweet hot guy. YUM! It’s a combustible pair! This is what made this story roll, how everything was so different from each other and yet it was what they needed. (Makes sense?) I have to say that this author shows she write with her heart. Since, they were time that Angel, had some f*cking lines like that they were so painfully sweet that got my undies wet.

“It was more than sex. It was more than lust. It was passion. It was raw. It was real. And it was ours.”

F*cking Angel.  Sigh*

In the end, this is action packed, panic induced, safe, hot read.

CROW (Boston Underworld Book 1) by A. Zavarelli

9 Apr

An Irish mobster. A missing friend. Two loyalties, ripping me apart.

I had a plan.

Get in, get my information, and get out. Easy, right?

Turns out, infiltrating the Irish mafia isn’t exactly what I thought it would be. I just wanted a soldier. Someone I could flirt with to get me in the door.

That’s when Lachlan Crow noticed me. Problem was, he wasn’t a soldier. No, he was next in line for the throne of the Irish underworld. And he was determined to hate me from the outset. My sob story about needing a job? Yeah, he wasn’t buying that either.

Too bad for him, I won’t let anyone get in the way of my mission.

Who cares if we have some kind of crazy chemistry? He’s the worst kind of wrong- and I would never in a million years be with a guy like him.

Because they took her from me, and I’m going to make them pay.

5/5 Motherf*cking Stars!!!

421211_1398597733689552_322082514_n stars 5

Reading this story is like pouring gasoline all over you, and then throwing a match at you.

If I were a man, this woman: author A. Zavarelli, would have grabbed my nuts.  She literally twisted them since chapter one. And dang, it would have been painful, since I couldn’t put down this book. This book was such pure ecstasy.  What a freaking ride. I’m still numb from the characters, the plot, the writing, everything. To say I love it, it would be an understatement. I F*cking crave it! I want to dry hump the book!  Hot Lachlan! Wish I could lick him. Sigh* But moving on, this book is serious shit! When I started to read, I thought, this isn’t going to top my favorite mafia books. Well the joke is one me.  And then I got slapped. Really. Really. Hard. This book demanded to be read! And since, we are speaking one on one, I must say I seriously lost my panties; there was just me and this book.  THIS MOTHERF*CKING BOOK! It’s explosive as the best orgasm of your life!

Now more deep, I have to say I love the characters, every single one of them.  And that’s a lot coming from me.  But the main characters (Mack and Lachlan), are fire, their struggle, hate; their fight for dominance is all consuming. Their chemistry is raw, possessive and heart wrenching.  It’s so real, that you feel there or being them.  That’s how I felt.  And don’t even get me started on the plot. It’s like a kaleidoscope, rich and detailed.  Each progress in their relationship was a sentence to their lives and yet it keeps them burning brighter than ever.  In order to open their hearts, sacrifices where made, being bittersweet and yet such an important part of their relationship, to their love. This story is flawless and yet it portraits such human characters far from being perfect. That’s what made me fall madly in love with this book.

Do I recommend it?  I freaking do! Do you need a new pair of undies? Hell Yeah! Do you need anything else? A bed. A bed would be good. (To read obviously). Get your mind off the gutter. Jeezz). This couple will make you tremble with desire and anger, but you will love them and crave for more.  THIS IS A MOTHERF*CKING UNFORGETTABLE READ!

Sometimes when war or changes are coming, drums are heard. The wind carries its sound across the earth and it ripples across the untamable ocean, in a continuous echo. And I heard it. I heard the drums as I read Broken by Nicola Haken.  Change was inevitable. Words where skipping across the pages and my heart felt heavy and free as I lived this story.  There are many books in this vast world of literature, but I must say that this one has a permanent place in my library and heart. I confess that I had to pause this story for a while to compose my mind, heart and life. I was no longer reading; I was listening to the voices of each character, felling to a degree that it was too much, I wanted to scream, punch something, cry and love, I was enthralled.

The author portrayed a unique and heart wrenching story, it was beautiful. I feel so honored to read this, and a piece of my heart will always belong to these couple, but James will always be my baby. I love him so much, and even if he’s a fictional character I want to say this to you, James.

Keep fighting for you, stay strong and chin up, because you also gave me strength. Don’t know why or how you just did. And I thank you for that.-

Initiated to Kill by Sharlene Almond

2 Jun

Two men, two different generations, both initiated into a powerful organisation that throughout history has sought control and use their power for destruction.
Two men leaving behind a wake of murder, revenge and vengeance. Two men that will stop at nothing, playing a game that only they know the rules.

One man roams the dark London streets for his victims, preying on women of the night. While the other stalks his victims in Seville, Spain; knowing that only he could uncover the true motives of one of the world’s most infamous serial killers – Jack the Ripper.

                    4.5 stars

A well written, thought provoking mystery. The author does a great job in making the scenes palpable to the reader. Enticing us to wonder who is behind the killings at every step and what secret does Annabella holds, why is she deaf? From one page to the next she keeps us guessing, really putting us through our paces.
The chapters are short, hence you’ll be devouring one after the other rapidly. The surroundings are described beautifully and characters described impeccably.
The only thing that I personally disliked, was that at the beginning I felt very confused by the sudden POV change but as you read on you begin to catch on to what’s going on.
This book would be great for people who enjoy a good mystery and will permit the author to take you on a very imaginative story. If you give it time and read on, you will come to fully appreciate what the author wants to put across.

                Author Interview

It’s great to meet you Sharlene!
Let’s begin this Q&A on an easy note.

Q- Would you tell us a bit about yourself?

A- Of course! I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my two dogs. Although I have had training in Beauty and Spa therapy, editing, journalism, animal behavior and photograpy, criminology and counseling, my main interest lies in writing novels which allows me to explore and learn about other eras and countries, creating characters that have deep rooted flaws, but uses those to achieve the end goal. My inspiration for novels came by accident, when finishing writing
my first novel and starting to edit it, I stumbled across a conspiracy theory, in which some believed the Freemasons were involved in the Jack the Ripper
murders. From there, the historical aspect took shape, continuing throughout all the novels I write. I hope that each novel I write doesn’t necessarily cause a person to believe in the conspiracy or myth, but challenges what they really
believe could be possible. To everyone reads my books, I hope they can
transport themselves back in time, learn more about the world around them, and maybe even question certain things they believe in.

Q- I read that you self-published first, then found a publisher. Why did you self-publish? And what do you like about having a real publisher?

A- I self-published to enable me to contact reviewers to review my books, while at the same time contacting publishers. Quick-starting the process meant I could get a fair idea of what readers wanted through reviews, and publishers could get a look to see what readers liked etc.

The best thing about having a publisher is that they cover all the editing, book cover work etc, without me having to pay out for things to get done. I have also noticed that quite a few book reviewers won’t review self-published authors, or some think because a person self-published that the book won’t be very good.

Admittedly, I do think my novel is much better done by a professional editor.

Q- I’ve read that you’ve studied body-language, how do you think that feeds into your writing? Can you offer other writers any tips?

A- My main character, Annabella Cordova is deaf, so the main way she communicates is through body language and facial expressions. Although I did plenty of research about this, actually studying this topic enabled me to give the character a more authentic feel to what she does.

Personally, in any good thriller/mystery book, adding an element of interpreting body language makes it a great read. Everyone can benefit from understanding body language.

And because I go into detail about this aspect, it makes it a bit different than other thrillers that might just skim over the topic.

Q- Given that you write a blend of historical and present day plots, set in different locations, do you think body language changes with time and place, or is it truly a universal language?

Body language is completely universal. Humans are incapable of not communicating. Whether it be someone displaying obvious signs of anxiety or anger, to someone just sitting completely still and not speaking.

Everything we do communicates to others, and because a lot of our body language is subconscious, we also cannot control some of what we put across. In that millisecond, our true feelings are exposed, and even the most accomplished liar cannot control that.
So, whether it be historical or present day, our unconscious brain sends signals that cause an automatic reaction, before the conscious kicks in.
The only thing I would say, is that people are becoming more accomplished liars; whether it be through psychopathic tendencies or pathological liars, people are learning more to mask their inner feelings. But if someone is trained and observant, no one can truly hide everything…

Q- Finally, the obvious question, please can you tell me where you and your books can be found on the internet.

A- I’m on a variety of social media platforms, which I am happy to connect with people that want to learn more about me and my books:

The Nympho Series by J.C. Black

7 May

Book One ~Nympho~ Christopher Caldwell grew up during a time of fast cars, hi-speed boats and beautiful women. Due to his experience in the boating industry he quickly became popular with local smugglers. It wasn’t long before the drug lords found a way to put his talents to work. That was until he met Megan and her sister Amber. Megan is a naïve and beautiful redhead who fell in love with Chris right away. Amber was just the opposite of her younger sister, she was gorgeous and had a sassy attitude to match. But, Christopher was confused by the two women, he wanted them both. He also had dreams and aspirations. But before he could pursue his dreams he must first repay a favor from a notorious family friend and bury some deep dark family secrets of his involvement with the drug lords.

Book Two ~Satyriasis~ and Chris is back, Amber and Megan still can’t pin him down to just one of them and there are others trying to get his attention. He wants to go to school, learn a trade, and be successful but he soon finds out that he can’t outrun his secrets. The crime family looks him up, leaning heavily on old relationships and Chris doesn’t want to see that debt hung on either his brother, Frank, or his brother, Tony. Chris agrees to fulfill this one job, with the assurance it will be the last. And can he walk away from Amber or Megan? He knows he can’t tell them the truth. He is torn with the knowledge this could keep him from ever finding a woman he could love, who could accept this part of him.

Book Three ~Nemesis~.. I love you. Three little words which made Chris Caldwell run as hard and as fast as he could from any woman. Love had nothing to do with his desires; he had plenty of women wanting to share his bed for a night of wild abandon. Until Isabella… She turned his world upside-down with her sexy body and sultry smile. But as Chris goes to bring in yet another shipment for the drug lords, his family is betrayed. Will he make it home to his beautiful woman or will the Feds finally take him down in a fiery blaze? Yet, to only find out and reveal Chris’s medical problem.

Note: 18+ Mature only

I loved this series. It’s funny & interesting at times, annoying at others but overall a good read. Story flows perfectly and reading one book after the other made my experience even more enjoyable. Not all characters are likeable, to tell the truth but they are well-developed and are integral part of the plot. Even side characters contributed towards understanding the main characters and the story as a whole. There were some twists and turns along the way, that will keep readers interested and not to forget all those steamy scenes which one should expect from a series called “Nympho”. If you are a fan of unusual stories about unusual characters, this one is for you.

Book one starts with Chris’ early life experiences when it comes to women. He encounter many sexual relations and is insatiable. he is not very choosy about his sexual partners. It shows how his experiences developed his personality. He is adventurous and likes to live on edge. Although no woman has ever been able to have his attention for long. Sooner or later he moves on to his next conquest. And that is how he likes it. For now he is working with his family and has put a hold to his personal aspirations. There are some funny scenes, some interesting situations and some very hot encounters which will keep readers engrossed. Personally, I liked this book even though I didn’t like Chris very much but he has some redeeming qualities as well.

Story continues in book two, it is no less interesting. Story flows more smoothly in this installment of the series. In many ways it will make you love this series even more because as the story progresses you’ll realize that there is so much more to Chris than his wild-love-life. His adventures continue as well. As much as Chris annoys me, I can’t help but laugh at his antics sometimes. He is so addicted to sex that its funny. He simply cannot say no to any woman he encounters. The book gets hotter and even more intriguing.

Once again, third book starts from where the second one left off. Finally Chris has met his match. Isabella just might be the woman who forced him to settle down. He is starting to love her but there are still some adventures in his life and how he gets out of his current predicament will be very interesting to read about. In my opinion a perfect conclusion to this series.
